The Lowbrow Society for the Arts is a New York City based art collective committed to experimenting with the established conventions of how the public interacts with art, and providing emerging artists- particularly LGBTQ, people of color, and women- with the resources and support network needed to get their artwork shown.
We are actively building and exposing a vast and uncharted creative network.
We are bringing people together to form an army of artists.
This is your call to arms.
Need help with your next event?
We curate art-parties. We dress up your event. We art direct raves. We build kissing booths. We book dancers, fire performers, hula-hoopers, face-painters, burlesque-queens, VJ’s, and other delectable entertainment. We provide scandal. We provide culture. We provide a spark.
Who We Are

Lowbrow was founded by Najva and Lenora in October 2008.
LENORA
Lenora is a pink-haired tornado based in Brooklyn, NY.
She claims her official job title is “creative dilettante”, due to her eclectic armory of skills and the inability to limit herself to just one. Some of these skills include: illustration, design, photography, fashion, and web design. Her secret powers include making kickass party fliers, staying up past her bedtime, color-coodinating, and concocting up schemes and adventures. {photo by Chris Carr}
NAJVA
Najy is a dancing ball of glitter and polaroids.
She is a recent transplant to San Francisco.
Some of her secret powers include catching your unexpected moments on film, writing poetry, getting a roomful of people dancing, and charming the pants off of all within range.
GWYNN
Gwynn is a rainbow enthusiast and lover of all things fantastical and imaginary.
Born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen near the epicenter of Times Square, she draws most of her inspiration from the mythical nature of the city. Her secret powers include sewing enchanted gowns, throwing the grandest balls, and transportation into magical realms. {photo by Tracy Ketcher}

I am currently finishing my BA of Fine Art/Theater in San Francisco and I am looking at jobs. I feel fated to be a barista when what I would really prefer to be doing is administrative or creative work for a company like Lowbrow Society for the Arts. Although I do not know if there are any open positions for Lowbrow, I would be interested to hear suggestions or advice about how/what companies I should follow. I have submitted my photoblog in the website category, but I also have a theater blog: whollybeing.wordpress.com
I look foward to future communications–thank you.
Sincerely,
Francesca
Fancesca,
Sorry that this is getting back to you so late- but I really appreciate this comment. Unfortunately-we are currently mostly volunteering our hours to make this happen. I’m working freelance, Gwynn does marketing for an arts space, and Lenora does design at a non-profit for girls. We are currently doing events mostly in New York, but would suggest you look into jobs with other fun organizations in your area! Sometimes, you have to visit & speak to someone before you find out a job is available.
Best,
Najva
